Continuing the tradition of bringing talented musicians and artists to the spotlight in front of the Atlanta audience, the volunteer and non-profit group "Manoranjan" of Atlanta is proud to present a musical concert "Swaranjali" on September 18th, Sunday from 5 pm onwards at the Atlanta Cultural Center in Lilburn, Georgia. In this concert we bring together a nationally recognized and award winning group of artists from Maharashtra and Bengal who through their brilliant renditions will bring to you authentic flavors of Indian Classical and Semi-Classical Music and make this an evening to remember !

Performer Details

Opening the evening will be Atlanta's own Souryadeep Bhattacharyya on the sarod. Souryadeep is well known among the new generation of Indian Classical Sarod players and is a senior disciple of Pt. Alok Lahiri. A national gold medalist in instrumental music and a graded All India Radio Artist, Souryadeep is a proud recipient of the prestigious "Pt. Nikhil Banerjee Memorial Award" from the Dover Lane Music Conference among other awards. A senior national schoalrship recipient from the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India, Souryadeep was also a senior fellow and a creative director at IndianRaga.


Accompanying him on the tabla will be Shivprasad Kotagal, another well known Atlanta based artist. Shivprasad underwent training under Shri Madhukar Gurav, a renowned exponent of the Ajrada Gharana, and continued training under Pt. K. Prashant and his celebrated virtuoso father, Pt. K. Paramjyoti. Shivprasad's performances have been featured on All India Radio, EBC Radio, and I-TV and he has also collaborated with western musicians with has a few fusion albums to his credit.


The artists will also collaborate with Manoranjan's popular singer, Nilima Mahadevia, who is well known for her bhajans and has performed in many temples in and around Atlanta on special invitations. She will sing classical hindi songs from old and new movies to bring to you flavors of semi-classical bollywood renditions. Nilima is an Atlanta based artist and has been an active member of Manoranjan Group since it's inception.


The final feature of the night will be the Swaranjali Group who will be represented by the following artists:


Apoorva Gokhale
She has an impressive musical lineage and has proudly and responsibly inherited the musical qualities from her grandfather, the late Gayanacharya Pandit Gajananrao Joshi and her great- grandfather Pandit Antubua Joshi, an eminent court musician in the erstwhile state of Aundh, district Satara. Apoorva is a Commerce graduate from Mumbai University and a Post graduate in Indian Classical Music with first class from S.N.D.T.University, Mumbai. Apoorva has been conferred with many awards like Surmani by Sur Singar Sansad, Mumbai, Vidyasagar Award by music forum, Mumbai, Acharya S.N. Ratanjankar an Pt. K.G. Ginde Award, Pandit Ramkrishnabuwa Vaze Yuva Puraskar etc. She is Graded artist of All India Radio. She has to her credit a large number of prestigious concert performances all over the country and abroad and has received praise- worthy reviews from musical genius and experts. She also has released CD Albums entitled Flowering Buds and Madhumalati, which have been highly appreciated.


Pallavi Joshi
She also has received guidance from her aunt Dr.Sucheta Bidkar & from her father, Shri. Manohar Joshi . She has been awarded Govt. of India National Scholarship for Hindustani Classical vocal young artistes . Pallavi is a graduate in Biotechnology and holds a Masters degree in Management Studies. Her Music Album Rising Stars is released in 2010 and Madhumalati Part 2, comprising of compositions of 25 ragas has been appreciated by the critics and listeners. She has given many solo concerts and sahagayan concerts with her elder sister Smt Apoorva Gokhale in a number of prestigious music conferences in India and abroad like Surashree Kesarbai Kerkar Sangeet Samaroh Goa , Ustad Shaikh Dawood Centinal Celebrations Hyderabad, Engagearts Singapore Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav,Pune,


Chinmay Kolhatkar
Chinmay Kolhatkar is one of the most popular and sought after harmonium players in India. Born in the family of music lovers he was initiated into music by his parents. He is the disciple of the renowned Harmonium maestro Dr.Arawind Thatte.He has been learning from Dr.Thatte for last 12 years. He is a graduate in Electronic Engineering. After his graduation he decided to take music as his profession. He has performed with all leading Vocalists,Tabla Players and Kathak Dancers all over the country and abroad.He has accompanied artists like Smt.Kishoritai Amonkar,Pt.Ulhas Kashalkar,Dr.Ashwini Bhide,Smt.Malini Rajurkar and many more.He has provided Lehara, accompaniment to great Tabla maestros like Ustaad Zakir Hussein,Pt.Anindo Chatterjee,Pt.Suresh Talwalkar,Pt.Yogesh Samsi etc.He has also accompanied Eminent Dancers like Pt.Birju Maharaj,Smt.Rohini Bhate,Smt.Shama Bhate etc. Chinmay is also a well known Music Composer.He has composed music for various Albums and Ballets.He also works as a Freelance Recordist for various projects.


Sanjay Deshpande
Sanjay Deshpande is a talented Tabla Player based in Pune, INDIA. He was born in a music loving family and was introduced to the art of playing Tabla under Late Pt. Sabade at Pune Bharat Gayan Samaj. Later he took Taleem (lessons) from the renowned Tabla player Pt. Suresh Talwalkar of Delhi-Farookabad Gharana, in a Guru Shishya Parampara for 6 years. He also had the privilege of understanding the beauty of Punjab Gharana under the guidance of world renowned Tabla maestro Ustad. Alla Rakha Khan Saheb. At present he is taking guidance from Shri. Yogesh Samsi and Pt. Vivek Joshi. Sanjay is recipient of the coveted “Ahmedjaan Thirakwaa Scholarship” for Solo Performance. He has accompanied renowned artists like Smt. Vasundhara Komkali, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Pt. Smt. Malini Rajurkar, Pt. Jasraj, Dr. Prabha Atre, Pt. Dinkar Kaikini, Dr. Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande , Smt. Veena Sahastrabudhe and many such great artists. He has performed in major conferences such as Sawai Gandharwa Music festival Pune, Paluskar Smarak Conference, Shankarlal Samaroha in New Delhi, I.T.C. Sangeet Sammelan . Dowerlane Conference, Kolkata. Sanjay has performed abroad in Countries like U.S.A, U.K, U.A.E, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Russia, Holland, Qatar, Sri Lanka, South Korea etc. He has also participated in the “World Vocal Festival” in Sweden. He is empanelled as GURU at the Lalit Kala Kendra, University of Pune. He has number of recordings released. His fusion album “Wind From Ayuta” with Korean musicians won the Best album award of the year - 2002 in South Korea.
